Minister Karding Protested Due To Opening Of Labor Delivery Moratorium To Saudi Arabia
JAKARTA - Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding received protests from a number of parties regarding the opening of a moratorium on the placement of migrant workers to Saudi Arabia.
He conveyed this after the signing of a Cooperation with the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) on Monday, March 24.
Initially, Karding revealed that the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) planned to map the potential for prospective Indonesian migrant workers sourced from Vocational High School (SMK).
Minister Karding emphasized that KemenP2MI is not only responsible for placement, but also focuses on protecting migrant workers.
"So the most important thing is our focus is protection. But that doesn't mean because this protection is the main thing, then we shouldn't place people anywhere because of past fears," said Karding.
Then, Karding said that there were several parties who protested their actions regarding the opening of a moratorium on the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.
According to him, there are several things that have changed from Saudi Arabia, such as protection, regulation, and culture.
Like in Saudi Arabia, I was protested, I should not place migrant workers. I think a lot has changed, in Arabia has changed. We already have the law, culture has begun to change, regulations change, many things change," said Karding.

Thus, Karding assessed that the opening of a moratorium with Saudi Arabia should be opened for Indonesia's progress in the migrant worker sector.
"I think if we don't want to try again, then we will walk on the spot," said Karding.
