Highlighting Official Repressive Actions To Demonstrators Of The TNI Bill, Commission III Of The DPR Reminds Police: Don't Just Play At Hours

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR RI Abdullah highlighted the repressive actions of the apparatus against students in demonstrations against the amendment to Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Army (UU TNI) in front of the DPR RI Building. Abdullah reminded the Indonesian Police (Polri) not to use violence in securing the proceedings of demonstrations.

"Security forces should not just play with demonstrators. Use humanist methods when trying to dispel or disperse the masses," Abdullah said, Friday, March 21.

"Remember, the police have a duty to protect the community. So set an example to the people," he continued.

Abdullah emphasized that students are expressing their aspirations and opinions in people's homes. As a democratic country, he emphasized, the state must guarantee the freedom of opinion of its people.

"Students convey that this aspiration is protected by the state constitution," he said.

Abdullah appealed to the leadership of the National Police to give firm directions so that his subordinates who secure the action can approach them in peaceful ways, so that demonstrators can be more cooperative.

"If there is tension in the field, the authorities prioritize soft approaches. Not with violence that can cause conditions to heat up. Moreover, until there is a wrong target for the general public," the legislator from the Central Java VI electoral district appealed.

According to Abdullah, the use of repressive methods will make things less conducive. In fact, it can tarnish the Polri institution and the security forces.

"Give opportunities for fellow students to express their aspirations. Do not let the form of repression by the apparatus give the impression that the state does not want to listen to the people," Abdullah said.

Abdullah also appealed to students to convey their aspirations peacefully. Whatever the reason, Abdullah said, anarchism cannot be justified.

"And for younger students, I also urge you to use peaceful methods when expressing opinions. So that there is no reason for the use of violence or repressive actions by the apparatus," he said.

Abdullah also invited all elements of the nation to keep this country conducive. Moreover, this coincides with the holy month of Ramadan which should be preserved.

"Everything we do is our best hope for Indonesia, his enthusiasm and actions should also be carried out in positive ways," Abdullah said.

"The aspirations of the people, including fellow students, are important for us to listen to. I believe that the contribution of students will certainly be beneficial for Indonesia. So channel aspirations and opinions in accordance with applicable regulations in order to maintain stability in public security and order," he concluded.
