Security Researcher Calls Disturbance X Caused By DDoS Attack

JAKARTA - Recently, Elon Musk's social media platform X experienced a disturbance that caused some users unable to make posts or refresh the timeline.

At the time, Musk said that the disturbance was caused by a massive cyberattack, and his party managed to track down the attacker's IP address and it was discovered that this cyberattack came from Ukraine.

There are (still) massive cyberattacks against X. We are attacked every day, but this is done with a lot of resources. Both large coordinated groups and/or a country are involved," Musk wrote on X.

Security researchers who tracked down the incident on Monday quickly stressed that the type of attack X appeared to be facing was the Distributive Denial-of-Service or DDoS attack.

Based on a report from Wired, the attack was launched by coordinated computer forces, or botnets, which attack targets with spam traffic, to control and cripple the system.

Botnets are usually spread around the world, generating traffic with geographically diverse IP addresses, and they can include a mechanism that complicates the determination of where they are controlled.

In the same report, the security researcher admitted to seeing little evidence that Ukraine's IP address played an important role in the DDoS attack. However, he stressed that the country was not even among the top 20 countries involved in the attack on X.

However, at this time, X has fully recovered and users can already see the latest posts, exchange messages, or upload posts. If your application is still having problems, try deleting and downloading the application again.
