Viral Women On TikTok Experience Disphony, Beware Of Causes And Symptoms Due To GERD

JAKARTA - A woman from Central Java recently went viral on TikTok due to a dysphonia or voice disorder, and had to undergo voice band surgery. He experienced a diponia due to gastroesophageal reflection (GERD) which rose to the concavity.

Reporting from Healthline, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, GERD is indeed a chronic condition that cannot be underestimated. This occurs when stomach acid flows back into the concavity, a channel that connects the throat and stomach.

When GERD, the lower esophagus sfingter function (where esophagus meets the stomach) causes stomach acid to enter the esophagus. This can trigger symptoms of pain in the liver and cause difficulty when ingesting (disfagia).

In actual rare cases, esophagus sfingter dysfunctions can occur at the top, which is located below the throat, which can cause stomach acid in GERD to rise to the faring or back of the throat.

This can lead to changes in the sound band due to irritation, inflammation, and damage to the sound band structure to dysphonia. Some of the symptoms experienced by the patient include not being able to speak in a high tone, talking slowly, and shortness of breath.

Further symptoms can also be experienced by patients, such as persistent sensations, chronic coughs, mucus accumulation, sore throat, to feel as if someone was stuck in the throat. Some patients can also experience heartburn symptoms and digestive disorders.

This condition, if not treated immediately, will not only cause voice disorders or dysphonia. Patients are also at high risk of experiencing oral curvature, repeated infections, chronic throat inflammation, prolonged cough, and fatality are cancer.

If you have experienced dysphonia due to GERD, a person must make lifestyle changes because the same incident repeats itself. Several things that can be done are reducing the portion of eating, quitting smoking, avoiding lying down after eating, limiting caffeine, drinking a lot of water, resting sound, avoiding spicy food, and losing weight.
