Funding For Danantara In The Pertamina NRE Project Will Prioritize Geothermal

JAKARTA - Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) CEO John Anis revealed that he would prioritize geothermal projects to obtain funding from the Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara).

"Why geothermal? Because geothermal is clear, it can be a baseload. And we already have it. The 3 giga already have it," said Jon to the media crew in Jakarta quoted on Tuesday, March 11.

Jon added, geothermal is a source of energy baseload or which can be stable throughout the day without a limited time so that it is more reliable than other energy sources.

He gave an example of hydrogen which is still constrained by the economy so that it cannot be developed. Likewise with solar panels which are still dependent on sunlight so that they cannot be relied on as baseloads.

"If it's geothermal, it means he's ready 24 hours. But if it's Banyu, it doesn't work," he continued.

However, he ensured that Pertamina NRE would explore all the potential for new and renewable energy (EBT) in Indonesia, including nuclear power that had entered the feasibility study stage.

Jon said that until now Pertamina NRE is still able to fund its own EBT projects with funding from various parties, but it is possible that it will ask for funding from Danantara if the management project will become even bigger.

"The funding can come from anywhere. But now, Alhamdulillah, we can also provide funding ourselves. But if for example it happens to be big, funding is needed, of course we will run to Danantara," explained Jon.

According to Jon, Pertamina NRE estimates that the amount of funds needed to manage the EBT project in 2029 to 2039 will reach 6 billion US dollars.

"That's just a projection, yes. It's dynamic (can change)," said John.
