Prabowo Is Advised To Change The National Police Chief, Listyo Sigit Is Talented To Be A Politician

The statement was made by the founder of Lingkar Madani (Lima) Ray Rangkuti in a discussion of the Legal Journalists Association (Iwakum) entitled 'The Urgency of Police Reform' in Jakarta, Friday, March 7.

"I see, Mr. Listyo, his political talent is much stronger than the talents of law enforcement officers. Therefore, I hope that the President will immediately release Mr. Listyo from his duties as National Police Chief so that his political talent can really be channeled," said Ray.

According to him, during Listyo Sigit Prabowo's leadership, the National Police was involved or tasked with supporting government programs rather than ensuring public security and order.

For example, the involvement of the National Police in the Free Nutrition Food program and monitoring stock exchanges that are not their duties and functions.

Therefore, Listyo Sigit Prabowo advised to join the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, who had a discourse on forming a political party.

"He (Listyo) and Pak Jokowi founded a new political party. The general chairman is Pak Jokowi, the Secretary General is Pak Listyo, it is very suitable," he said.

In fact, Ray said that he had long encouraged Listyo Sigit Prabowo to be evaluated. The reason is because there are allegations of being close to Jokowi.

Thus, Listyo is considered a common ground between President Prabowo Subianto and Jokowi.

"But I think the matter of the National Police Chief is a kind of meeting point. Between Pak Prabowo and Pak Jokowi. This is the political reading," said Ray.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International's Executive Director, Usman Hamid, said that the aspirations for the replacement of the National Police Chief had been conveyed since August 2024. Basically, there have been many repression actions of Polri personnel against civilians and students.

"For us, the excessive application of the police does not apply to individuals. Because it is almost a general pattern. Because the responsibility lies with the institution. In this case, of course, the institution is an abstract entity. Who should be concrete? The National Police Chief," said Usman.
