Belarus Detains Ukrainians Allegedly Planned Terror In Russia

JAKARTA - Belarusian border service officers detained a Ukrainian citizen on the Latvian border, who plans to carry out "extremist activities" in Russia. A number of people related to the Ukrainian citizen were also detained.

Belarusian authorities arrested an unnamed man while trying to cross from Latvia to Belarus, which also borders his close ally, Russia.

"The Ukrainian resident intends to go to the Russian Federation to carry out extremist activities to disrupt the socio-political situation and regulate extremist structure cells for the sake of Ukraine," the Belarusian State Border Committee said.

Belarus allowed Russian President Vladimir Putin to use his territory as a launch pad for the Ukrainian invasion in February 2022. The two countries routinely hold joint military exercises.

Russia plans to build a drone manufacturing plant in Belarus with an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, a Russian official said on Thursday.

The drone is now the main weapon for Russian and Ukrainian troops on the battlefield.
