Borong Dua Green Leadership, Three Gold And Five Green PROPER PROPERs, SIG Leads The Transformation Of The Cement Industry Towards A Green Economy

JAKARTA - The superiority of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk ('SIG') in carrying out environmental and social-minded business practices has again received appreciation from the Ministry of Environment (KLH) with the achievement of the Company's Performance Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) 2024.

GIS and its subsidiaries were awarded three Gold PROPERs and five Green PROPERs because they were considered to have the above required performance (beyond compliance) with better environmental quality and community welfare results.

Successfully passed last year's achievement with two Gold PROPERs, this time SIG Group increased the number to three Gold PROPERs which were won by Tuban Factory, East Java (SIG), and two PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk factories, namely in Cilacap, Central Java and in Lhoknga, Aceh.

Meanwhile, the Green PROPER was achieved by the Indarung Factory (PT Semen Padang), Pangkep Factory (PT Semen Tonasa), Rembang Factory (PT Semen Gresik), PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk Tuban Factory, and PT Semen Baturaja Tbk factory.

This proud achievement cannot be separated from the commitment and leadership vision of the President Director of SIG, Donny Arsal, who finally led him to receive the Green Leadership Main award. The director of one of the subsidiaries, namely PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, Asri Mukhtar, also received the Green Leadership Madya award. The entire award was handed over directly by the Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq on Monday, February 24, at Sasono Langen Budoyo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta.

President Director of GIS, Donny Arsal expressed his gratitude to God Almighty for this achievement and dedicated the award to all stakeholders of the company who gave its best contribution, so that SIG became the company of the building materials industry with the most Gold PROPERs. This achievement further strengthens the GIS in leading the transformation of the building material industry towards a green economy, which focuses on sustainable development to maintain a balance between economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social welfare.

The 2024 PROPER award from KLH is the government's appreciation for the collective work of management and all GIS employees, support from the Board of Commissioners, as well as collaboration with the community and stakeholders. This achievement certainly motivates us to always carry out sustainable operations based on the principles of property, people, and planets," said Donny Arsal.

Donny Arsal added, based on three sustainable pillars, GIS carries flagship programs, one of which is Ecopark Kambangsemi in Tuban, East Java, a post-mining land that is transformed and used as a means of tourism for agricultural, livestock and fishery education. Now, the development of Ecopark Kambangsemi is expanded by utilizing corn barrel waste as an alternative fuel to help reduce carbon emissions in the cement production process.

In addition, in Cilacap, Central Java, the factory operated by PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk integrates vulnerable groups with a circular economic ecosystem. This program has a positive impact on the environment by processing waste into upcycled products and reusing it as an alternative referenced-derived fuel (RDF). In addition to having a positive environmental impact, this program also contributes to improving the community's economy through sales of upcycle products.

Meanwhile, in Lhoknga, Aceh, PT Solusi Bangun Andalas runs the Joint Solution Program to Maintain a Waste-Free Coastal and Sea Ecosystem which is a solution to the problem of accumulated coconut waste. Coconut waste is processed into cocofiber, which is a valuable product that can be used as water filtration. This product helps the efficiency of water use, especially when the dry season hits. Coconut waste is also processed into cocopeat which is used as a planting medium for farmer groups in the area.

"In addition to helping the Company get alternative fuels and protecting the environment from negative impacts due to unmanaged corn barrel waste, this program also provides economic benefits for farmers. By using corn tuna waste as an alternative fuel, GIS has the potential to reduce fuel costs to Rp947 million per year, and help the Company reduce CO2 from the cement production process to 4,416 tons of CO2 per year. ," said Donny Arsal.
