Is It True That Hot Baths Are Not Good For Body And Head Skin Health? Here's The Doctor's Explanation

JAKARTA - Most people really like bathing with warm or hot water because it is considered to have a calming effect. However, this warm or hot shower activity should not be done too often.

This is because the heat from the water can damage the health of the body's skin and the skin. The skin will look drier, because the hot water temperature can interfere with the function of the oil glands in the skin that function in natural moisturizers.

"Because if we use water that is too warm and even hot, it can dry the skin," said the head of the Jakarta branch of the PERDOSKI, dr. M. Akbar Wedyadhana, Sp. DVE, FINSDV, FAADV, when met in Central Jakarta, on Thursday, February 19, 2025.

Doctor Akbar said that water with normal temperatures or steam nails is highly recommended for use when bathing. The water temperature is not too hot and not too cold.

"In skin health science, it is better for us to wash our hair and shower with steamed water. So it's not too hot, it's not too warm. Normal temperature water or steam oil is recommended," he explained.

Using normal temperature water to shower is very good to prevent the skin from becoming dry. This is because if the skin is dry it can damage the outermost layer, which can later cause various health problems.

"If the skin becomes dry, both the body and the scalp, eventually the barrier can be disrupted due to steam, yes, because it is too hot," he added.

"So it is better to recommend normal water or steam nails. If it is resistant to cold water, that's okay," concluded Doctor Akbar.
