Arne Slot Reluctant To Boast About The League Champion After Liverpool Beat Manchester City
JAKARTA - Arne Slot said Liverpool fans could sing whatever they wanted after they chanted "we will win the league" in a 2-0 win over Manchester City at Etihad on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
The Dutch manager added that he was not sure that the Premier League title this season would be in Anfield's glass cabinet.
Goals in the first half of Mohamed Salah (14') and Dominik Szoboszlai (37') confirmed a convincing victory over Pep Guardiola's side.
The three points gave Liverpool 11 points ahead of Arsenal who were in second place.
With Liverpool playing seven of the remaining 11 league games at Anfield, Arne Slot's side are likely to win their first league title since 2020.
However, Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp as coach after leaving Feyennoord last summer, said the Premier League was still too competitive for Liverpool to believe the title had been won.

"The fans can sing whatever they want, but we know how hard we have to play for every win."
"So, I'm not sure (the title has been achieved). It's very difficult to assess the league standings before each game is played."
"If you play against Manchester City at Etihad and win, it's always been a big win."
However, three days ago we drew at Aston Villa. People told me we weren't in a good position."
"Then three days later, we won and it changed again. We know how difficult it was to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers last week."
"We will face Newcastle United next after a 3-3 draw at home. So, every game is difficult."
"In any other league, this advantage will feel comfortable, but not for this one. Even the (FA Cup) match at Plymouth headquarters shows us that," said Arne Slot.
Slot has brought Liverpool to superior position at the top of the table despite adding only one player - Italy striker Federico Chiesa - to the squad Klopp inherited.
He said he believed his team could compete for the title although many observers underestimated Liverpool's chances at the start of the season.
"No one sees us as title challengers at the start and no one expects Manchester City to be far from the top of the table."
"However, I always feel we have a lot of quality, that's why we don't bring in players, other than Chiesa," said Arne Slot again.
The 11-point advantage of Arsenal could not be separated from the slip of Mikel Arteta's team against West Ham United on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The Gunners failed to get closer to Liverpool because they lost 0-1 at the Emirates Stadium despite having one more game than the league leaders.
