Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Affirms Gaza And The West Bank Are Not A Bargaining Tool For Politics
JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday confirmed to the United Nations Security Council that the Gaza Strip and the West Bank are not bargaining tools and are the homeland of the Palestinian people.
Foreign Minister Wang said it was very important to enforce a two-state solution.
"Gaza and the West Bank are the homeland of the Palestinian people, not a bargaining chip in political bargaining. Palestinians who rule Palestine are an important principle that must be followed in the post-conflict Gaza government," said the senior Chinese diplomat, reported by the Daily Sabah on February 19.
Foreign Minister Wang chaired a 15-member Security Council meeting on multilateralism, along with China's presidency on board for February.
In general, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said countries "cannot just sit still and watch multilateral institutions become functional and ineffective because of their own failure to work together," urged the Security Council to "overcome geopolitical considerations" to fight for solidarity and cooperation.
"Every act of intimidation, deception, or extortion constitutes a striking violation of the basic norms of international relations. Any unilateral sanction that avoids authorizing the Security Council has no legal basis, opposes justification, and is against common sense," said Foreign Minister Wang.
