OpenAI Finally Leaked GPT-5, But Still Lack Of Information
JAKARTA - After more than half a year of waiting for news about OpenAI's next major move in AI technology, we finally heard a little bit of information about the GPT-5.
However, instead of immediately introducing this model, OpenAI previously released GPT-4o. Now, in 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed a company roadmap that includes GPT-5.
Before discussing further, Altman announced something significant, namely the simplification of the OpenAI AI model naming system.
Previously, the company had released various variants such as GPT-3, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, GPT-4 Turbo, GPT-4o, and GPT-4o Mini, which confused many people. Altman stated that OpenAI will tidy up future model naming and release strategies.
As part of this plan, OpenAI will first release the GPT-4.5, previously known as the Orion code name. This model will be the last model that does not use the "chain-of-throught" method.
After that, the company will focus more on launching tools that use various AI models, rather than releasing many models with confusing names.
This simplification is considered important, considering that other companies such as Google are also starting to experience complexity in naming their AI models, such as the Gemini 2.0 series.

Although it does not disclose the specifications, release date, or GPT-5 capabilities, Altman provides an overview of how this model will be distributed to ChatGPT users. One of the good news is that all users, including free ones, will have access to GPT-5.
However, there are differences in the level of model intelligence based on the user category. ChatGPT Plus users will get a smarter version of GPT-5, while Pro users will have access to the most advanced version.
Although it is not yet known whether OpenAI will provide a special name for each of these versions, many hope that the new naming system will be clearer, for example using names such as GPT-5, GPT-5 Plus, and GPT-5 Pro.
In the question and answer session, a user asked Altman about the estimated launch time of these models. Altman replied that the GPT-4.5 will be present in a matter of weeks, while the GPT-5 will be released in the next few months. This indicates that the GPT-5 is likely to launch in 2025, although the exact date is still unknown.
For AI fans who have been waiting for the GPT-5, it seems they still have to be patient a little longer.
