Identical To Valentine's Day, Here Are 7 Ways To Make Roses Last Longer
JAKARTA - Nothing more romantic than receiving a fresh bouquet of roses on Valentine's Day. Sweet floral fragrances and bright petals will certainly beautify the house, although it only lasts a few days. However, according to experts, there are some easy ways to make your Valentine's Day roses last longer this year.
"Mawar usually has a shelf life of about 7-10 days with proper maintenance, although some varieties can last longer," said Justin Lievano, head of flower designer at UrbanStems, as reported by Good House Keeping, Thursday, February 13.
"Precisely, garden roses have a stronger aroma but unfortunately they don't last long. Meanwhile, hybrid roses or types that are usually sold in flower shops have a softer aroma but can actually last longer," explained Lievano.
Whatever type of rose you receive on Valentine's Day, the tips approved by the following experts will help you keep the flowers fresh and fragrant until the end of February.
Make a trim when you first receive flowers and every time you finish changing the water in the vas.
"Take the flower scissors and cut it about a quarter-inch from the bottom of the stick to reopen it and keep the flowers hydrated," said Lievano.
"Every time you trim the rose stems, cut it obliquely. Strong Malay rods, such as roses, would be better if cut with a 45 degree angle as it would increase the surface area where the stems can absorb water."
Once trimmed, it is important to put the roses in a clean container so that the roses can thrive. Although some glass vassels are safe to wash with anealing machine, several other vassels need to be washed by hand using warm soapy water. Make sure you rinse the vassel thoroughly to prevent soap from damaging the rose.
After the rose is trimmed and placed in a clean vassel, now is the time to put water in it. Although most flowers can usually last long without water, putting it in the water will provide the best opportunity for plants to last long.
Give your rose an extra boost with some fertilizer. This mixture is available in powder and liquid. You can use it on all types of cut flowers.
"Pupuk bisa terdiri dari campuran agent antibiotics yang mencegahkan bacteris pembunu bunga tumbuh di air vas dan sugar untuk memberi nutrient pada bunga," kata Lievano.
"Make sure to check the mixing instructions. You have to get the right proportion of food and water to ensure the flower food is functioning properly."
However, Lievano warned against using the method of providing homemade fertilizers involving bleach, soda, or airways, because the method does not always provide the best results.

Throw and refill the water in the vas at least once every two days for the best results. And when you do, Lievano recommends following the first tip. Get used to changing water and cutting your stems at the same time every two days.
Of course, flowers need sunlight, but it's best to keep the roses away from direct sunlight or heat sources that can damage the petals.
"Both of them will encourage the growth of bacteria in vascous water, which will make flowers old and die quickly," said Lievano.
On the other hand, make sure your bucket gets a lot of indirect sunlight in a room-temperature environment.
In a few days, flowers will begin to wither at some point, even if you follow all the steps above. When the time comes, it's best to pick the wilted petals so that the bouquet looks fresh. You also have to turn the flower vassel so that all the roses get a chance to absorb a little light.
