DPR Still Insists On Jokowi Inaugurating Budi Gunawan As National Police Chief In Today's Memory, February 13, 2015

JAKARTA Memories of today, 10 years ago, February 13, 2015, Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) confirmed that there is no longer any reason for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) not to appoint Budi Gunawan as the National Police Chief. Jokowi's intention not to inaugurate Budi is said to be a harassment against parliament.

Previously, Budi's candidacy as National Police Chief was faced with a corruption case. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) then named Budi a suspect. The criticism so that Budi is not appointed appears everywhere.

Budi Gunawan is a figure who was predicted to be the new National Police Chief in early 2015. His name has been heard among Senayan politicians. Budi is considered the right person so that he can bring the Police to develop and progress.

The People's Representatives are fully supportive of Budi. Problems arise. The KPK has been disrupting Budi's path to becoming the National Police Chief. The KPK has suspected that Budi is not a clean figure. This suspicion has emerged for a long time, or when Budi was the Head of the Police PSDM Career Development Bureau for the 2004-2006 period.

The KPK sniffed out suspicious financial transactions to Budi's account from the report of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to the National Police Headquarters on March 23, 2010. The KPK immediately acted to investigate it. The investigation was carried out.

The KPK's suspicions peaked when Budi's State Administrators Wealth Report (LHKPN) increased significantly in 2013. The evidence collected is considered sufficient. This condition made the KPK move to raise the status of corruption suspect Budi on January 13, 2015.

The determination brings pros and cons. Those who support consider the determination to be proof that the KPK is able to work well against corruptors. They counter emphasized that Budi's determination tends to be sudden.

Because, why did the KPK only make Budi a suspect right when Budi would be appointed as the National Police Chief. This condition made the position of the KPK a news center. Budi's candidacy as the National Police Chief was disrupted.

Deru protest from the public for the cancellation of Budi's inauguration emerged everywhere. Everything is because Budi is not a clean and straight figure.

"After a long investigation, the KPK found more than two pieces of evidence and decided BG as a suspect in receiving the prize when the suspect served as a state administrator," said KPK chairman Abraham Samad in a press statement at the KPK building quoted by the CNN Indonesia website, January 13, 2015.

This problem made a balance between the levels of government. Jokowi himself has revealed the cancellation of Budi's inauguration on February 11, 2015. The cancellation was carried out by Jokowi by calling directly the Speaker of the DPR, Setya Novanto.

The reaction of Commission III of the DPR also regretted Jokowi's decision. Jokowi is considered to have humiliated the parliament. They see no reason for Jokowi not to inaugurate Budi on February 13, 2015. Members of Parliament have conducted a fit and proper test. Budi is also in the process of pretrial regarding his suspect status.

This condition makes Budi worthy of being inaugurated. If President Jokowi is indeed disturbed and does not want to be underestimated by the people, Commission III proposes Jokowi to continue to inaugurate. The case will be removed later.

"The DPR has given approval, there is no reason for him (Jokowi) to cancel it. It must still be inaugurated. After being inaugurated then using the prerogative to dismiss, it is up to the President," said Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Desmond J Mahesa as quoted on the Kompas.com page, February 13, 2015.
