3 Kg LPG Theft Rises In Ampenan Mataram, Police Arrest 2 Perpetrators

The police arrested two teenagers with the initials J (21) and R (20) who stole 3 kilograms of LPG gas cylinder specialists in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Ampenan Police Chief AKP Gede Sukarta said his party had been hunting for the whereabouts of the two perpetrators for a long time considering that many complaints from the public in the Ampenan Police jurisdiction reported losing 3 kg LPG gas cylinders.

"So, from the results of our investigation, the two perpetrators have indeed repeatedly done the same thing as the target of 3 kilogram LPG gas cylinders," said Gede in Mataram, Thursday, February 6, as reported by Antara.

Thanks to public information support, he continued, the two perpetrators who came from the Bugis neighborhood, Ampenan District, Mataram City, were caught in their homes without a fight.

"From these reports, we followed up and hunted down the two perpetrators until they managed to catch them at their house, which is also still in the same neighborhood as the victim's residence (the reporter)," he said.

The two perpetrators were arrested from the latest report received by the police on January 28, 2025. The victim in the report claimed to have lost his 3-kilogram LPG gas cylinder stored in the kitchen.

"From the results of the examination of the two perpetrators, it was revealed that since January 28, it turned out that the perpetrators had acted four times with the target of stealing 3 kilogram LPG gas cylinders," he said.

From the development of information, the police secured three 3-kilogram LPG gas cylinders along with a gas stove from the crime of the two perpetrators.

"We have secured the stolen evidence from the buyer. One of them, there are two 3-kilogram LPG gas cylinders sold to a stall in the Bintaro area," he said.

He sold the 3 kg LPG gas cylinder at a price of IDR 150 thousand and the gas stove was sold for IDR 200 thousand.

"The money from the sale has reportedly been used up for fun," he said.

For the actions of the two perpetrators who were arrested on Wednesday, February 5 evening, police investigators have named them suspects and detained them at the Ampenan Police Detention Center.

Both were named as suspects suspected of violating Article 362 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code concerning thefts that were carried out jointly and repeated acts with a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison.

"So, for now, the case is still being filed, we are still developing it to find out whether or not there is a crime scene or not," said Gede.
