4 Motorcycle Thieves Operating In Yogyakarta And Sleman Arrested, Each Has A Role

YOGYAKARTA - The police arrested four suspects in a motor vehicle theft syndicate operating in the Yogyakarta City and Sleman Regency areas.

"From the results of the investigation, we have obtained four suspects with their respective roles," said Yogyakarta Police Chief Kombes Pol Aditya Surya Dharma during a press conference at the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters, Thursday, February 6, which was confiscated by Antara.

The four suspects arrested had the initials HP (34) a resident of Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, AD (27) a resident of Grobogan, Central Java (Central Java), KU (41) a resident of Grobogan, Central Java, and DA (33) a resident of Grobogan, Central Java.

They have different roles, ranging from executors of theft, collectors, makers of fake STNK, and sellers of stolen vehicles to the public.

The disclosure of the case, said Aditya, stems from public reports related to the rampant theft of motorcycles in the Yogyakarta area on January 10 and February 6, 2025.

After an investigation was carried out, including analyzing the victim's information and CCTV footage, the police identified the suspect with the initials HP (34) who was a driver from Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra.

The suspect HP was arrested at a hotel on Jalan Walter Monginsidi, Surakarta, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 22.30 WIB.

"The perpetrator admitted that he had committed theft at approximately 20 crime scenes, of which five crime scenes were recognized in the Yogyakarta City area and the rest were in other areas in Yogyakarta," he said.

From the hands of the cellphone, the police secured various tools used in the theft, such as the L letter key, modified drift, fitting key, and ring key.

"He admits (to commit theft) alone. However, we need to explore this later whether it is true alone or there are still other suspects or other perpetrators," he said.

All stolen vehicles were then sold cellphones to a collector in the Grobogan area, Central Java with the initials AD.

After the development was carried out, AD was arrested at his home on January 30, 2025 and admitted to receiving 20 units of stolen vehicles from cellphones, then selling them to suspect DA (33).

Before being sold to the public, Aditya continued, the vehicles were equipped with fake Vehicle Number Certificates (STNK) made by KU (41).

Suspect KU gets the old STNK by ordering online from someone in Bandung, then changing the frame number and engine number.

Each vehicle that has been equipped with a fake STNK is priced at around Rp. 4 million to Rp. 5 million per unit.

From the disclosure of this case, the police confiscated 11 units of motorcycles of various brands and stolen types.

For his actions, HP was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

Meanwhile, AD and DA are subject to Article 480 of the Criminal Code concerning detention with a maximum penalty of four years in prison. Meanwhile, KU was charged with Article 263 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of six years in prison.

Kasatreskrim Yogyakarta Police Commissioner of Police Probo Satrio said the police were still developing this case to reveal other perpetrators, including tracing the network of fake STNK suppliers suspected of operating from Bandung. "We are just pursuing those in Bandung," said Probo.
