Sri Mulyani Reveals Enforcement Of Smuggling Goods In East Java Reaches IDR 785 Billion In 2024
JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani revealed that throughout 2024, the Ministry of Finance managed to carry out 4,215 prosecutions in East Java. The total value of goods being prosecuted reached Rp. 785 billion.
During 2024 in the East Java region, 4,215 actions were taken. The value of goods that were strengthened reached Rp. 785 billion and the potential loss to the state that could be prevented or saved was Rp. 293 billion," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, February 5.
Sri Mulyani said that for the East Java region, the concentrations are garment, textile, steel, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages (miras), and narcotics.
"For smuggling, we can prevent 266 million illegal cigarettes in East Java. The mode is not informing customs news. This is a potential state loss saved by Rp356 billion," he said.
In addition, Sri Mulyani also said that the government had succeeded in cracking down on the smuggling of 40,000 liters of imported alcohol.
"For MMAA or in this case alcohol, especially 40,000 liters of imports with a value of Rp. 6.9 billion with a potential state loss of Rp. 3 billion. This is only for East Java," he said.
Sri Mulyani also said that other items that were also dealt with included textile products identified with wrong customs reports with potential state losses reaching Rp5.6 billion.
"For textile products and textile products with the wrong or incorrect reporting mode, there is Rp. 18.6 billion potential for state losses of Rp. 5.6 billion," he explained.
Not only that, Sri Mulyani revealed that motorized vehicles were also targets for smuggling. There are 8 units of motorized vehicles that were smuggled worth Rp. 799 million with a potential state loss of Rp. 243 million
Then, electronic goods that were successfully dealt with with amounted to Rp12.8 billion. The smuggling of these goods has the potential to cost the state Rp3.8 billion.

"And the cosmetic products that have been conveyed previously have a value of Rp7.2 billion with a potential loss to the state of Rp2.2 billion," he explained.
In addition, Sri Mulyani said the government was also paying attention to the illegal trade in protected flora and fauna. He said this flora and fauna were also targets for smuggling.
He said there had been smuggling of rattan wood commodities, tokek animals, importing passenger goods in the form of elephant ivory that did not meet the provisions of the Convention on International Trade and Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
"Potensi kalau barangnya sendiri dilindungi tapi juga dari sisi estimasi kerugiannya adalah Rp2,2 miliar yang melibatkan seluruh barang-barang tersebut," ujarnya.
