After Being Inaugurated By The Governor Of DKI, Pramono Will Demand Mangrove Destruction Perpetrators On Pari Island Responsibility
JAKARTA - The elected governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, admitted that he would immediately sue the perpetrators of mangrove destruction in the waters of Pari Island to be responsible for the environmental damage they caused after being officially inaugurated as Governor of DKI Jakarta.
"Whoever (the perpetrator) will be governor, I ask to be responsible for replanting in that place," said Pramono after planting mangroves in the Angke Kapuk Protected Forest Area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Wednesday, February 5.
Pramono emphasized that the existence of mangroves in Jakarta, especially in the northern coastal area, has a very important role. In the midst of the threat of Jakarta sinking due to land subsidence, mangroves can withstand abrasion to coastal flooding.
Thus, the mangroves and sand dredging in Pari Island waters by PT CPS for their business interests on Biawak Island cannot be justified. This is because Pari Island has been affected by abrasion and even flooding.
"The decline in land surface in Jakarta is around 5 cm per year. Abrasion occurs on the north coast, what happens on Pari Island, but there is also mangroves planted, then damaged. This has a big impact on the island," explained Pramono.
On that occasion, Pramono emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government in its leadership era will routinely plant mangroves in northern Jakarta waters. One of the programs he initiated was Giant Mangrove Wall, in addition to the Giant Sea Wall project run by the central government.
"I'm serious about developing a permanent Giant Sea Wall, but there are mangroves on it. So I call it Giant Mangrove Wall. Why does that have to be done? Because like it or not, like it or not, we need mangroves," he explained.
For information, the residents of Pari Island, Thousand Islands have expressed their rejection of the dredging of sea sand for the development of tourism facilities by the private sector in shallow waters in the Pari Island Cluster. Residents are worried about environmental damage caused by the project.

This case has finally received attention from the central government. The Minister of Environment (LH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, emphasized that dredging of sea sand in the waters of Pari Island is an illegal act. The Ministry of Environment will take firm action regarding this matter.
"Identification of sea sand without a permit on Pari Island is an illegal act that has the potential to damage marine ecosystems and has a socio-economic impact. We will act decisively to ensure that development is carried out in accordance with applicable regulations," said Hanif, some time ago.
He said he had assigned the Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement (Gakkum LH), Inspector General of Police Rizal Irawan to collect data and information (puldation) at the location on January 21-23, 2025.
This step, then continued with steps to seal development activities carried out on Pari Island today by the Deputy for Gakkum KLH, witnessed directly by Minister LH Hanif.
The dredging activity is allegedly carried out for the reclamation of tourist resorts without being equipped with Business Licensing, Environmental Approval, Environmental Documents, and Environmental Management Technical Approval.
