Sales Of Bukit Asam Coal Reach 42.9 Million Tons In 2024

JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) managed to set the highest coal sales record in history. During 2024, PTBA's total coal sales reached 42.9 million tons or grew 16 percent on an annual basis (yoy).

As a comparison, PTBA's coal sales in 2020 amounted to 26.1 million tons, then 28.4 million tons in 2021, grew to 31.7 million tons in 2022, then increased to 37.0 million tons in 2023.

"The achievement of the sales record was supported by coal exports of 20.3 million tons in 2024, an increase of 30 percent on an annual basis. The realization of the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) was 22.6 million tons, growing 6 percent compared to the previous year," said Corporate Secretary of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Niko Chandra, Wednesday, February 5.

Niko explained that PTBA's coal sales were dominated by the domestic market. However, in terms of mix, the portion of exports is increasing. Currently, the domestic market portion is 53 percent and exports are 47 percent.

The potential of the main markets has been maximized, for example, exports to India have succeeded in increasing by 32 percent to 6.4 million tons.

In addition, exports to Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia increased significantly. Sales to Vietnam increased 250 percent to 3 million tons. Exports to Thailand amounted to 1.6 million tons, up 153 percent on an annual basis. Exports to Malaysia jumped 221 percent to 888.7 thousand tons.

The increase in PTBA's coal sales was also supported by the realization of production of 43.3 million tons and coal transportation of 38.2 million tons throughout 2024. This achievement of coal production and transportation is also the highest record.

"With increasingly brilliant operational performance, Bukit Asam is ready to provide Energy without stopping to realize self-sufficiency in energy included in Asta Cita, which is currently the government's focus," said Niko.

By 2025, PTBA targets coal production of 50 million tons, sales of 50.1 million tons, and transportation of 43.2 million tons.
