One Indonesian Citizen Victim Of Shooting In Malaysia Successfully Undergoes Surgery, Indonesian Embassy Meets Selangor Police Chief

JAKARTA - One Indonesian citizen (WNI) who was shot victim in Malaysia successfully underwent surgery, while the police chief in Selangor conveyed his commitment to completely uncover this case to the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday, MH, an Indonesian citizen from Aceh who was the victim of the shooting by Malaysian officials, was currently in a stable condition after undergoing surgery and had been transferred to an ordinary hospital.

"Information about MH's condition has also been conveyed directly to the family concerned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," wrote the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Monday, February 3.

"Meanwhile, one other Indonesian citizen is still under intensive monitoring and testing the hospital, so they cannot provide information and have not been verified," continued the ministry.

It is known that officers from the Malaysian Maritime Authority Agency (APMM) shot a ship in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor on January 24, 2025, at around 03.00 am local time.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the shooting was carried out after ship passengers were suspected of resisting. This incident caused one Indonesian citizen to die and four others were injured.

"The Indonesian Foreign Minister regrets the loss of Indonesian citizens in a shooting incident by APMM (Agensi Pengguasian Maritime Malaysia)," wrote the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Last week, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs took home the body of Basri, an Indonesian citizen who died in the incident to be handed over to his family and buried on Rupat Island, Bengkalis Regency, Riau.

The other two Indonesian citizens who also suffered gunshot wounds, namely MZ and HA, have been declared cured. They are currently being taken information from the police. The two Indonesian citizens came from Riau Province.

Previously, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur held a meeting with the Head of the Selangor Continuous Police (IPK) (Head of the Selangor Regional Police) on January 31, 2025.

The Chief of Police expressed his commitment to carry out a thorough, fast and transparent investigation, including the officers of the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM) involved.

Of the three articles used in the investigation in question, there is one article in the Deed of Firearms which is used to investigate APMM officers for alleged errors in the use of weapons.

For investigation purposes, the APMM officers patrolling the night of the incident have been relieved. Adapin APMM has stated that he is willing to cooperate with PDRM in the investigation process.

Most recently, based on a statement by the Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM) in the media, on February 1, 2025, the Selangor Police arrested one Indonesian citizen regarding this incident.

The Indonesian citizen entered Malaysia on a tourist visa and was detained by the police to assist the investigation. Until now, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has not received a consular notification for the arrest.

The Indonesian Embassy has sent a Diplomatic Note to the Malaysian Government asking for an explanation and consular access for the Indonesian citizen in question.
