Jombang BPBD Still Searching for 2 Residents Buried in Landslide in Baturejo Hamlet

JOMBANG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Jombang Regency, East Java, is searching for two residents of Baturejo Hamlet, Sambirejo Village, Wonosalam District, who are suspected of being buried by a landslide.

Acting Secretary of the Jombang Regency BPBD Heri Setyobudi said that his party received information from residents on Thursday morning at around 04.30 WIB that a landslide had occurred in Baturejo Hamlet, Sambirejo Village, Wonosalam District, Jombang.

"Friends also went straight to the location this morning. There are BPBD, volunteers watching, monitoring, and helping the community," he said in Jombang, Antara, Thursday, January 23.

From the reports received, four houses were damaged by the landslide. At that time, it was also reported that there were several fatalities. Two residents managed to survive, but the whereabouts of two others are still unknown.

For this reason, members of the Jombang Regency BPBD as well as volunteers and the community helped search for the two people who were suspected of being buried by the landslide.

"It was reported that four houses were buried by the landslide and there were several human victims. This is still being confirmed by friends. Kalaksa (head of implementation) and also friends from BPBD and volunteers are still at the location to help with the evacuation," he said.

He added that the team is still focused on searching at the initial point suspected of being buried by the landslide. The search uses simple tools with hoes, senso machines, and other tools. Heavy equipment such as excavators have not yet arrived at the disaster location.

"Two people were injured, two are still being searched for. Whether it is true that there are fatalities or in another position, the search is still being carried out," he said.

In addition, the team has also found a number of valuables that were also buried by the landslide, such as motorbikes. Officers from TINI/Porli also helped in the search process for residents.

Officers also evacuated the motorbikes buried by the landslide to a safer place.

Heavy rain hit Jombang and its surroundings, including in Wonosalam District. Behind the residents' houses there are hills, so the landslide hit their houses.

Meanwhile, for the two residents who survived the disaster The landslide victims were immediately taken to the local health center. They immediately received treatment from the medical team.
