Erick Thohir Warns Merak Port Will Explode During Lebaran Homecoming
JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir warned of the density of travelers at the crossing of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), especially at Merak Port during the momentum of the implementation of Eid or Eid Al-Fitr 2025 transportation.
Erick said that the movement of people during the Lebaran homecoming will increase five times from the movement during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holidays.
"Later this Eid can be five times that of Nataru. It is certain that the traffic jams that have been at ASDP, in Merak, can be overcome. Maybe that's the biggest record," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of SOEs Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 21.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, said that his party had prepared a density decomposition option at Merak Port, which reflected on the evaluation of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru). One of them is by utilizing several ports around Merak.
"But we also have to calculate carefully. We have to study it because the number of travelers will be even more," said Dudy.
Furthermore, Dudy emphasized that he would use all the options that had been prepared so that the density of travelers at Merak Port could be overcome.
