PLN Indonesia Power Ready To Develop 50 MW Floating PLTS In Lake Singkarak
PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is ready to develop a floating solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 50 MW in Lake Singkarak, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra.
President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Edwin Nugraha Putra in his statement in Jakarta, Monday, January 20, said that his party will continue to fully support the energy transition program, which is targeted by the government.
Together with ACWA Power's strategic partner from Saudi Arabia, PLN IP developed PLTS Terapung Singkarak 50 MW.
"We are moving quickly in the Singkarak PLTS development process. This project is one of the implementations of the Greennesia program, which was launched in 2020 to accelerate new and renewable energy in Indonesia and support the net zero emission target in 2060 and part of the PLN assignment from the government to build several PLTS spread throughout Indonesia," he said, quoted by Antara.
For this reason, he continued, PLN IP requires full support from all parties, including the people of Tanah Datar Regency.
Edwin explained that the floating power plant in Lake Singkarak will later become the largest PLTS in Sumatra.
The EBT development initiative has also been listed in the 2021-2030 Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
"For an illustration, 50 MWac or 76 MWp from the capacity of the Singkarak PLTS can electrify 40 thousand houses with green electricity and enter the western Sumatran electricity system," added Edwin.
The development of the Singkarak PLTS is a reliable technological solution in achieving an energy mix of 23 percent.

As part of this strategic step, according to him, the Singkarak PLTS is expected to be able to make a major contribution in suppressing carbon emissions, increasing energy efficiency, and creating a greener and more sustainable energy future.
The Singkarak PLTS project, which is planned to operate or the commercial operation date (COD) in 2027, will utilize an area of 49 hectares or 0.45 percent of the total area of Lake Singkarak, which reaches 10,780 hectares, thus maintaining environmental balance and the function of the lake ecosystem.
"The construction covers several areas, namely South Batipuh, Batipuh and X Koto sub-districts in Tanah Datar Regency with management designed to maximize the benefits for local communities," said Edwin.
