Hasto Kristiyanto Is Silent About The KPK's Investigation: Lawyer Explains The Reason For His Attitude

The Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, chose to remain silent after being questioned as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the alleged bribery in the management of the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the DPR RI and the obstruction of the investigation on Monday, January 13.

Hasto's attorney, Maqdir Ismail, who accompanied him during the examination, said that his client was reluctant to comment after the examination.

"He really doesn't want to just comment," Maqdir told VOI, Tuesday, January 14.

Maqdir also denied claims that Hasto was sick, even though he looked pale after undergoing an examination for about 3.5 hours. "There is no problem with his health," said Maqdir.

According to the lawyer, Hasto's attitude of choosing to remain silent is considered appropriate, because the results of the examination will be conveyed directly by the KPK.

"Indeed, there is nothing that needs to be conveyed by him regarding the results of the investigation. It is better if the investigators convey important things in the investigation," said Maqdir.

Hasto's attitude was different when he was examined as a witness in the PAW case on Monday, June 10, 2024. When the KPK had not developed the case and ensnared him as a suspect, Hasto protested when investigators confiscated his cellphone.

His personal belongings were confiscated from his staff, Kusnadi. "My examination has not been included in the main case," said Hasto at that time. "In the middle of the examination, my staff named Kusnadi was summoned to meet me, but then the bag and cellphone in my name were confiscated," he said.

Regarding Hasto's silence after the examination, the KPK spokesman, Tessa Mahardhika, chose not to give many comments.

"Is there talk that makes HK brothers don't want to talk? This is the realm of investigation material," Tessa told reporters on Monday.

However, Tessa ensured that investigators had explored several things related to Hasto. One of them is asking for information regarding the evidence found in this case. "Hasto was asked for information regarding electronic evidence documents and clarifying other witness statements," said Tessa.

Tessa added that investigators also explored Hasto's knowledge regarding the case that was being suspected of him and other suspects.

Previously, the KPK developed a case of alleged bribery related to the management of PAW members of the DPR involving the former KPU commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan, and his fugitive, Harun Masiku.

In developing this case, Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah, a PDIP cadre and a lawyer, were named new suspects.

Hasto was also charged in the case of obstruction to the investigation, because he allegedly asked Harun Masiku to damage his cell phone and run away after the arrest operation (OTT) was carried out.
