Migrant Workers From Lebak Victims Of TIP Died Amid The Legal Process In Egypt

BANTEN - The Indonesian Migrant Workers Volunteer Community (KRPMI) of Lebak Regency said a migrant worker from Sajira District, Lebak Regency, who was a victim of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) died.

"Tenaga migrant yang meninggal dunia dan bekerja di Mesir dan masuk kategori TIP," kata Ketua KRPMI Kabupaten Lebak Nining Widianingsih, mengutip ANTARA, Minggu, 12 Januari.

The TIP victim who died was named Inah (45), a resident of Sajira, Lebak Regency, 2024, who was sentenced to three years by the Court, but when he was sentenced to death due to illness.

The victims of the migrant workers went to Cairo Egypt through a non-procedural route without being recorded at the Lebak Regency Manpower Office.

Based on reports from the Lebak Regency Government throughout 2024, there were 10 TIP cases.

Those victims of TIP were residents of Lebak Regency with the aim of working for the countries of Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.

Most of the victims of the TIP can return to their homeland after their families report to the local Manpower Office.

"We immediately coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after receiving a report from the families of the TIP victims to be followed up," said Nining.

According to him, most of the victims of TIP were residents of Lebak Regency spread across Maja and Sajira sub-districts.

However, his party needs to collect data on residents in the RT/RW environment so that community conditions are monitored.

Because, according to him, people who live in pockets of migrant workers sometimes do not exist, but there are no reports from the RT/RW.

So far, he said, Lebak residents who reported being victims of TIP did not have data from the local Manpower Office.

Most likely they work abroad through illegal companies that are prone to being victims of TIP.

"We ask residents not to be provoked by large salaries to work abroad, they should report through RT to villages so that the company is caught if it is not registered with the local Manpower Office," he said.
