Meta Trial Shows EBay List On Facebook Marketplace

JAKARTA Meta Platform Inc., announced on Wednesday January 8 that the company will launch trials in Germany, France, and the United States that allow buyers to explore eBay's list of items on Facebook Marketplace, with final transactions being made via the eBay platform.

This move provides benefits for eBay sellers as they get wider exposure to Facebook audiences. Meanwhile, Facebook marketplace users can enjoy access to more choices of lists of items originating from the eBay community.

This trial was carried out in the midst of Meta, which is still appealing the European Commission's decision in November 2024. Meta was fined US$840 million (Rp13.6 trillion) in terms of business practices that are considered detrimental and provide unfair profits for Facebook Marketplace.

In an official statement, Meta said that although the appeal process was still ongoing, they were continuing to work to respond to points raised by the European Commission regarding Facebook Marketplace.

The European Commission has yet to comment on Meta's new move.
