Eruption Of Mount Semeru Capai 14 Times In 24 Hours, People Asked To Be Alert
JAKARTA The eruption activity of Mount Semeru on the border of Lumajang Regency, East Java, is still ongoing until Wednesday, January 8, early in the morning. This was reported by officers from the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
Mukdas Sofian, an officer of the Mount Semeru Observation Post, reported that at 02.47 WIB, the volcano again threw volcanic ash as high as approximately 1 kilometer from the summit.
"Recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of 165 seconds," Mukdas said, as quoted by ANTARA.
The Geological Agency noted that the eruption was the 14th in 24 hours. About three hours earlier, on Tuesday, the observation team recorded eruptive activity with volcanic ash as high as 600 meters above the peak or 4,276 meters above sea level.
Mount Semeru, with a height of 3,676 meters above sea level, currently has a Alert status. The Geological Agency provides a number of recommendations to anticipate potential hazards, including;
There is no permit for any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan as far as 8 kilometers from the summit or the center of the eruption.
Beyond that distance, people are prohibited from doing activities within a 500 meter radius from the banks of the Besuk Kobokan river because it has the potential to be covered by hot clouds and lava flows up to a distance of 13 kilometers.
