Receiving Apple's High-ranking Visit, Minister Of Industry Agus: We Have Received Official Proposals

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita received the presence of Team Apple Inc in order to negotiate Apple's planned investment proposal of 1 billion US dollars or around Rp. 16 trillion in Indonesia.

It is known that Apple's Vice President of Global Policy Nick Amman and his entourage set foot in the main lobby of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) building at around 14.30 WIB.

Apple is scheduled to negotiate with a technical team chaired by the Director General of Metal Industry for Transportation and Electronic Equipment (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Setia Diarta.

Agus said that his party had received an official proposal from Apple Inc on Monday, January 6, 2025.

"We have received the official proposal. Yesterday, January 6, (2025) we received an official letter from Apple," Agus told reporters at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 7.

After receiving the official proposal, Agus said that currently Apple is still negotiating with the Director General of Setia Diarta.

"So, now it is in the negotiation stage between the team led by the Director General (Setia Diarta) and the team led by Nick," he said.

Agus admitted that his meeting with the group of giant technology companies lasted about 30 minutes, of which a group from Apple consisted of 4 people and the Ministry of Industry as many as 6 people.

"Yes, the meeting, right, (the same) I was only 30 minutes," he said.

When asked whether the negotiations could be completed today, Agus could not provide certainty. According to him, the negotiations are still ongoing.

"I have said many times that no time frame has been set. We can do a done deal today, it could be tonight, it could be tomorrow, it could be next week or even next month. So, we don't set the time. The target we set is the substance," said Agus.

Based on VOI's monitoring at the location, negotiations between Apple and the Ministry of Industry are still ongoing.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry was scheduled to hold a meeting with Apple on January 7-8, 2025 in Jakarta.

"We will only negotiate with the Apple headquarters of the US (United States). Thank God, Apple will send a high official level directly from America to negotiate with the Ministry of Industry January 7-8," Agus said.
