Minister Of Industry Agus: Sritex Is Ready To Come To Our Office To Talk About Important Things

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that he had succeeded in communicating with the curator of the bankruptcy case of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk or Sritex. Both parties will meet this week.

"The point is that they (curators) are ready to come to our office to discuss important matters with the government," Agus said as quoted on Tuesday, January 7.

Agus said the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) last month which rejected the Sritex case's cassation made it even more difficult for the government.

His party together with the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) and the Confederation of Nusantara Trade Unions recorded that around 50,000 company workers were affected.

The government has an interest in ensuring the continuation of Sritex's production and export activities, so as not to be taken by foreign players.

"Once Sritex loses the market, it's hard to get trust back," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Putu Juli Ardika stated that the textile industry is still under pressure.

"This is what is under pressure, actually the textile industry," he said.

Putu said, one of the reasons why the industry is still contracting is due to the current import pressure.

"The textile (industry) is due to import pressure. So, for domestic-oriented industries, there are still a lot of imported products," said Putu.

"Meanwhile, for exporters, this is a global condition that is still not good," he continued.

He added that there are six other industrial sub-sectors that have not yet left the contraction level.

Such as the wood industry, wood and plantation goods (excluding furniture), the rubber industry, rubber and plastic goods as well as the machinery and equipment industry that is not included in it.

Then, there is the motor vehicle industry, trailers and semi trailers, furniture industry and other processing industries.
