Minister Of Industry: Apple's Investment Value Of 1 Billion US Dollars Is Still Small

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Apple's investment value of 1 billion US dollars was still relatively small.

Agus assessed that this figure was not comparable when compared to the four principles of justice requested by the Ministry of Industry and the total sales value of Apple in Indonesia.

"Compared to the four principles of justice and compared to the total sales of Apple in Indonesia which was recorded at around Rp32 trillion, the figure of 1 billion US dollars was small," Agus said when met by reporters at his office, Monday, January 6.

He added that the Ministry of Industry continues to encourage Apple to build production facilities, aka factories in the country.

According to Agus, there are four principles of justice prioritized by the Ministry of Industry for Apple's investment plan in Indonesia.

Among other things, Apple's investment comparisons in other countries, investment in mobile phone manufacturers, handheld computers and tablets (HKT) other than Apple in Indonesia, added value and income for Indonesia as well as employment in the ecosystem.

"Anyway, for Apple, the most important job creation means that he is building a factory in Indonesia. I'm not talking about numbers," he said.

The Ministry of Industry is scheduled to hold a meeting with Apple on January 7-8, 2025 in Jakarta.

"We will only negotiate with the Apple headquarters of the US (United States). Thank God, Apple will send a high official level directly from America to negotiate with the Ministry of Industry January 7-8," Agus said.
