Bad News Comes From Batam, 158 People Die, COVID-19 Cases Skyrocket

JAKARTA - Cases of COVID-19 transmission in Batam City, Riau Islands increased drastically with an additional 90 people tested positive for the Coronavirus in one day on Wednesday, April 14, bringing the total positive COVID-19 to 6.489 people.

As a result of the soaring additions, now seven out of 12 sub-districts have become red zones. In fact, the spread has reached the penyangga island, until Kembalipadang has become a yellow zone after five residents have tested positive for COVID-19.

"The total number of people currently undergoing treatment at the hospital is 342 people", said Batam City COVID-19 Handling Spokesperson Azril Apriansyah in Batam, as reported by Antara, Thursday, April 15.

With the addition of 90 positive people, the total reached 6.489 people and 15 people recovered to a total of 5.989 people.

The task force also recorded a total of 158 people died.

Batam City Government appealed to the public to always carry out health protocols and remind each other.

Azril conveyed that the Batam City COVID-19 Monitoring Team together with Barelang Police, Military District Commander (Kodim) 0416 Batam, and the National Army (TNI) officials continued to improve socialization and supervision of health protection.

"Since April 1 in several markets, Civil service police (Satpol PP) officers have also been assigned to ensure that the health protocol can be implemented properly", he said.

Then, administrators of places of worship are also expected to remind the congregation to comply with health protocols, because the spread of COVID-19 is still spreading.

"In essence, we hope for commitment and support to all elements of Batam City society, don't let the COVID-19 cases continue to increase", he said.
