BI Conducts NFC-Based QRIS Tap Implementation Trial
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) together with Payment Service Providers (PJP), and Perum DAMRI conducted a trial of implementing the Near Field Communication (NFC) based QRIS Tap on DAMRI transportation modes in Jakarta.
Head of the Payment System Policy Department, Dicky Kartikoyono conveyed this as a preparation step for the implementation of QRIS Tap NFC which is planned to be implemented in the first quarter of 2025.
"The payment innovation using NFC-based QRIS Tap is designed to facilitate the need for fast and mass payment transactions efficiently and safely, including transportation, retail, MSMEs, and parking transactions," he explained in his statement, Friday, December 20.
Dicky said that the development of NFC-based QRIS Tap was carried out in order to accelerate financial inclusion and support the digitization of payment systems in Indonesia, in line with the vision of the 2030 Indonesian Payment System Blueprint (BSPI).
According to Dicky, this NFC-based QRIS Tap is the work of the nation's children who have a number of advantages, such as supporting interconnection and interoperability that can facilitate various sources of payment funds (electronic money, deposits, and credit facilities), domestic transaction processing, increasing cost efficiency, as well as speed and convenience in their use.
"The NFC-based QRIS Tap innovation utilizes the previously developed standard messaging, namely QRIS Consumer Presented Mode (CPM), but utilizes NFC interface technology," he explained.
Dicky conveyed that through this innovation, people can make contactless transactions using smartphones so as to provide easier and more practical and faster transaction experience.
"If it has been implemented, people can use NFC-based QRIS Tap by opening a mobile banking application or other payment applications on smartphones that support the NFC feature," he said.
Dicky explained how to use it is to access the QRIS menu, select the QRIS Tap feature, input a transaction PIN, then bring the smartphone closer to the terminal at the merchant to make transactions.
According to Dicky, the development of NFC-based QRIS Tap involved 15 PJP and 4 Payment Infrastructure Operators (PIP).
