Residents Clash With PT MEG Workers On Pulau Rempang Batam, 95 TNI/Polri Personnel Deployed
BATAM - Kapolresta Barelang Kombes Pol Heribertus Ompusunggu said that 95 TNI/Polri personnel had deployed to the Rempang area to maintain a conducive situation.
Pengerahan usai bentrokan antara masyarakat Sembulang Hulu, Pulau Rempang, dengan pekerja dari PT MEG pada Selasa 17 Desember malam.
"We involved 70 Polri personnel and 25 Kodim, tasked alternately to maintain a conducive situation," said Ompusunggu at the Barelang Police Headquarters, Batam City, Wednesday, December 18, which was confiscated by Antara.
Ompusunggu explained that this incident began with the three PT MEG workers securing a banner containing the rejection of the national strategic project (PSN) Rempang Eco-city installed by the community.
Knowing the incident, residents did not accept the actions taken by PT MEG employees, and carried out detention measures for several hours.
The incident was reported by another PT MEG employee to the Galang Police, they did not accept the treatment of the residents of one of the employees.
Employees of PT MEG hope that their colleagues will be released, but not heeded, triggering the anger of other workers.
"The increasing tension has finally caused physical clashes between PT MEG and local residents," he said.

As a result of the incident, four to five residents of Rempang were injured, and one PT MEG employee was also injured.
Currently, he said, PT MEG and the public had made a report regarding the incident, and a post-mortem was also carried out on the victims.
"Further investigations are being carried out by officers," he said.
Ompusunggu juga mengimbau kepada masyarakat di Rempang agar tidak mengambil tindakan main hakim sendiri awal terjadi peristiwa berulang.
"If something like that happens, please take a photo, and report it to the nearest police officer, we will follow up," said Ompusunggu.
