Coordinating Minister Yusril Calls The Government Commitment To Discuss The New KKR Bill On Human Rights
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto was committed to discussing the new Draft Law on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (RUU KKR) regarding human rights (HAM).
This effort is to continue the policies that have been started with the Government of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
"Then some have also been followed up, and will continue to be continued by the new government today. In that case, there is already a draft or concept about the Plan for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which hopefully adopts universal principles about KKR learned from many countries," said Yusril while attending the commemoration of World Human Rights Day at the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission Office, Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, December 10.
He revealed that although a number of articles had been canceled by the Constitutional Court (MK) in 2006, the Government was still trying to discuss the plan.
According to him, the bill will become a strong basis for resolving human rights cases that occurred in the past, which are already difficult to find evidence, witnesses, and perhaps no more victims.
"But things like that can be resolved by means of reconciliation based on law," said the man who is also an expert on constitutional law.
Yusril added that the Government will explore or learn a lot to draft the law from countries of a number of other countries, such as South Africa.
The effort to discuss the bill is a form of the Government's commitment to solve past human rights problems.

"The drafting of the law will also be based on the values that live in Indonesian society, both in customary law, Islamic law, and so on, which acknowledge deliberation, then make peace, and then forgive each other and forget each other's problems, but still be recorded as an event in society," he said.
