Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) released four Javanese hedgehogs or javanica hystrix, belonging to local residents, Nyoman Sukena (38) in the Danau Buyan-Tamblingan Nature Park Conservation Forest Area, Pancasari Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali.

"The four Javanese Landak are evidence of the case of ownership of protected animals in the name of I Nyoman Sukena which has been signed or has permanent legal force," said Head of the Bali BKSDA Ratna Hendratmoko in Denpasar, Sunday, December 8, confiscated by Antara.

Previously, the animal was taken care of at the PT Bumi Lestari Utama Conservation Institute (Tasta), which is located in Tabanan.

In addition to the four Javan hedgehogs belonging to Nyoman Sukena, the BKSDA also released one Javanese hedgehog from the community, one Brontok eagle (Nizaetus cirrhatus) and one Bengalensis Cat (Prionailurus) which were released into the foot of Mount Batukaru, Pujungan Village, Pupuan Tabanan Regency, Bali.

Ratna said the Brontok eagle, forest cat, and one Javanese hedgehog were animals that were handed over by the community voluntarily to the Bali KSDA Center, then were taken care of and rehabilitated at the Nature and Humanitarian Lovers Foundation.

He explained that the release of animals is regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 17 of 2024 concerning Wildlife Rescue.

Ratna said that before being released into the wild, the animal had gone through an examination process by a veterinarian (Medik Veterinary) from the Bali KSDA Center and the Nature and Humanitarian Lover Foundation, both from the medical and animal behavior aspects.

The Bali KSDA Center and the Nature and Humanitarian Lover Foundation have also conducted habitat studies at the location for releasing animals. This is done as a condition for fulfilling the feasibility of releasing animals into their habitat.

Ratna stated that this release activity is part of efforts to preserve endangered wildlife, as well as efforts to maintain the balance of the ecosystem in Bali with the concept of Tri Hita Karana, as well as a concrete step for the commitment of all parties to protect protected animals.

In addition, this activity is carried out in order to support conservation efforts and recovery of wildlife populations in the wild.

The release of these animals involves related parties, namely the Badung District Attorney, Bali.

The Nature and Humanitarian Lover Foundation, PT Bumi Lestari Utama, KPH South Bali, Babinsa and Babinkamtibmas Pancasari Villages, Babinsa and Babinkamtibmas Pujungan Village, Bendesa traditional Pancasari village and local indigenous village communities. This activity was also attended by the Director General of KSDAE for the 2017-2022 period, Wiratno.

Separately, the Head of Sub-Section for Prosecution of the Badung District Attorney, Agung Satriadi Putra, stated that the Badung District Attorney's Office is committed to always supporting conservation efforts, especially in Bali Province.

Efforts to release animals carried out today are a follow-up to the Court's Decree on the case of ownership of protected animals under Law on behalf of I Nyoman Sukena which has been incraht, where in the decision, evidence in the form of four Javan hedgehogs was declared to be released back into their natural habitat.

"This release is expected to have a positive impact on the sustainability of wildlife in Bali, especially in supporting efforts to protect endangered species," he said.

In addition, this activity is expected to be a learning medium for the community related to animal conservation and sustainability efforts.

The Bali KSDA Center is committed to continuing to involve and invite the community to build awareness of conservation, as well as increasing the role of the younger generation to care about nature and the environment.
