Today's Weather, Beware Of Thunderstorms In Most Of Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most major cities in Indonesia will experience thunderstorms on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

BMKG forecaster Pramudhian F said that the weather conditions on the island of Sumatra varied. Pekanbaru City is forecasted to be thick cloudy, while Banda Aceh and Padang have the potential to experience light rain. However, Medan and Tanjung Pinang are predicted to experience thunderstorms.

The cities of Jambi, Bengkulu, and Lampung are expected to experience light rain. Meanwhile, people in Pangkal Pinang and Palembang are asked to be aware of rain accompanied by lightning and thunder.

The cities of Jakarta and Serang are predicted to experience light rain. Yogyakarta has the potential for heavy rain, while Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya are forecasted for thunderstorms.

In this area, Denpasar City is predicted to experience moderate rain. Mataram and Kupang have the potential for thunderstorms.

Samarinda is expected to experience light rain, while Palangkaraya will experience moderate rain. The cities of Tanjung Selor, Pontianak, and Banjarmasin are asked to be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning and lightning.

Gorontalo is predicted to be thick cloudy, while Manado and Palu are likely to have moderate rain. Thunderstorms are predicted to occur in Mamuju, Makassar, and Kendari.

In eastern Indonesia, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya cities, light rain is forecast. The cities of Nabire and Merauke will experience moderate rain, while the city of Ambon is predicted to experience rain accompanied by lightning.

The air temperature in Indonesia generally ranges from 16'33 degrees Celsius with 56'99 percent humidity.

Meanwhile, the BMKG also reminded the potential for an increase in extreme rainfall ahead of Christmas 2024 and New Year's 2025, which is caused by a cold rush phenomenon from the Siberian highlands.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati explained that this phenomenon could trigger flooding in areas such as West Java, Lampung, Banten, and DKI Jakarta.

"This cold rush can increase rainfall with extreme intensity, especially in western Indonesia. We hope that the worst scenario does not happen," said Dwikorita.
