BMKG warns of flash floods in Sukabumi, high rain potential continues until March 2025

Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati, reminded Sukabumi residents and their surroundings to remain alert to potential flash floods. BMKG estimates that the high rainfall that has just started will last until March 2025.

"Currently we are just entering the beginning of the rainy season, and the condition of land in several areas has changed a lot. This increases the risk of flash floods. Therefore, we urge the public to remain alert, because high rainfall is expected to continue until March 2025," said Dwikorita on Thursday, December 5.

Dwikorita emphasized that high rainfall does not mean that flash floods will continue until March. He explained that although conditions in Sukabumi could improve in the near future, the potential for similar disasters remained in other areas.

To anticipate potential disasters, BMKG urges the public to always pay attention to early weather warnings issued. Dwikorita also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the community and local governments in regulating anticipatory measures, such as evacuation.

"We convey an early warning to ensure that people have enough time to prepare themselves. Local governments are expected to immediately take strategic steps to protect their citizens," he added.

Previously, flash floods hit Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Wednesday. Heavy rain for two days caused the water discharge to rise drastically to inundate several areas, including Palabuhanratu District.

The water level was reported to have reached 80 to 90 centimeters, making many residents trapped and requiring emergency evacuation.
