Electricity Suddenly Extinguished Followed By The Beginning Of The Fire At The Morowali KPU Office

The Morowali Police in Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi) investigated the cause of the fire at the Morowali Regency General Elections Commission (KPU) building that occurred on Tuesday, December 3.

The Morowali Police Chief, AKBP Suprianto, explained that the chronology of the fire occurred at around 11.45 WITA when members of the Morowali KPU and relevant stakeholders were holding a coordination meeting to prepare for the re-voting (PSU).

According to him, the electricity suddenly went out which was followed by explosions and then sparks appeared above the roof of the Morowali KPU building.

The fire was successfully extinguished at around 12.05 WITA using three fire engines assisted by a water canon belonging to the Central Sulawesi Police Mobile Brigade Unit.

He revealed that the initial suspicion that the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit. However, his party is currently still investigating the exact cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Police Chief ensured that all regional election logistics were safe and successfully removed from the Morowali KPU warehouse.

Although the KPU logistics warehouse did not catch fire and only the KPU office building, logistics were still issued to anticipate and ensure its safety.

"We anticipate by issuing logistics. So logistics are safe and intact. The warehouse has not been touched by fire at all, even so we are still anticipatory by moving it," he said in his statement in Palu, Tuesday, December 3, which was confiscated by Antara.

After the incident, the police held a meeting with KPU members to determine new warehouses for regional election logistics, and the Morowali KPU office for temporary activities because the burning office building could not be used because it needed to be processed at the crime scene (TKP).
