Lower Imports, SIG And PT Pertamina Lubricants Successfully Develop The First Domestic Open Gear Lubricant In Indonesia

JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) and PT Pertamina Lubricants have succeeded in developing the first domestic open gear lubricant in Indonesia. This success is a strategic step for GIS to meet the needs of open gear lubricants that have been imported so far, while increasing the potential for achievement of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) in the Company's operations.

The initiative carried out by SIG and PT Pertamina Lubricants cannot be separated from the direction of the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, to increase competitiveness with the products of other nations.

"This is realized through the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) promoted by state-owned companies. We prove that Indonesian products are no less competitive than other national products, that we are proud of the work of our nation," said Erick Thohir.

The development of open gear lubricants in the type of grage or fat is carried out from February 2022 to December 2023, and has gone through a testing process in a laboratory owned by PT Pertamina Lubricants. The lubricant of the development results has also been declared to have passed the performance testing in the ball mill of a GIS subsidiary, namely PT Semen Padang and PT Semen Tonasa, with indications of normal operating conditions in all parameters, including vibration, temperature, and physical condition of gear during performance tests in August - December 2023.

SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari said this achievement was an important milestone in the journey of the GIS transformation, especially in an effort to increase the value of TKDN and reduce dependence on imported products, as a form of the Company's alignment with the domestic industry. This achievement was achieved thanks to applied research (applied research) which is in line with the operational performance targets that have been set.

Providing lubricant performance testing facilities, GIS through its cement factories is committed to developing open gear lubricants which are important components in the cement production process to protect the main gear in some equipment. This is because the main gear bears a heavy burden because it works in a long duration in an environment that requires good and optimal lubrication. The quality of open gear lubricants with the specifications that have been set is able to maintain a gear life according to the equipment maintenance target.

The domestic open gear lubricant developed by SIG together with PT Pertamina Lubricants has a technical and economical reliability target, so it is hoped that it can meet the needs of the GIS cement factory that has been imported so far. This achievement is in line with the company's operational excellence target and GIS's commitment to increase the advantages and competitiveness of domestic industries," said Reni Wulandari, in a statement, Tuesday, November 26.

President Director of PT Pertamina Lubricants, Werry Prayogi, said that the successful development of the first open gear lubricant in the country is a clear proof of PT Pertamina Lubricants' commitment in encouraging innovation and independence of the national industry. This is also the first time Pertamina's grage has been tested on playing equipment at the GIS factory, which has proven to be able to work optimally to protect the main gear in an operational environment that demands high resilience.

Through a strategic collaboration with GIS, we are proud to present the work of the nation's children who not only have competitive prices but also have proven their performance in trials at the PT Semen Padang and PT Semen Tonasa mills. The results of the trial show an advantage in terms of temperature stability, resilience to heavy burdens, and cost efficiency. We are proud to be able to contribute to efforts to increase the competitiveness of domestic industries and reduce dependence on imported products through innovations designed and fully developed in Indonesia," said Werry Prayogi.
