Siri Chatbot Coming in 2026 as Part of iOS 19
JAKARTA – The latest rumor is that Apple is developing a Siri based on a large language model (LLM) to make its virtual assistant more conversational. The feature is expected to debut on iOS 19 in early 2026, according to a report from Bloomberg.
This move shows Apple's change in direction in artificial intelligence (AI). Previously, the company often sidelined the idea of chatbots like ChatGPT. However, AppleInsider reports that Apple's internal testing of AI tools shows that Siri will be increasingly integrated with Apple's advanced AI features.
The new Siri is designed to support more complex two-way conversations, complementing the improved typing experience to Siri. With an LLM-based system, Siri will be able to understand context better and provide more interactive responses.
Apple's AI Developments and New Siri Challenges
Since the debut of AI features in iOS 18.1, Siri has undergone few significant changes. Siri currently functions more as a connector to tools like Google search or ChatGPT than as a completely standalone tool. The basic structure for controlling smart home devices, setting reminders, or making calls still applies.
However, with the LLM approach, Siri will be able to provide a higher level of contextual awareness, leveraging user data and app features on the device. For example, Siri could provide recommendations based on personal schedules or current location, such as helping pick up a family member from the airport.

However, the transition to LLM technology also has challenges, such as the risk of AI "hallucinations", in where the system provides incorrect or irrelevant information. Apple is trying to mitigate this risk with a more rigorous approach to AI, though it is not eliminating it entirely.
Debuts at WWDC 2025
iOS 19 is likely to be unveiled at WWDC 2025 in June. However, the LLM-based Siri is not expected to be available to users until early 2026, if the rumors are true.
The move is expected to make Siri the new face of Apple Intelligence, an AI model that is integrated across the Apple ecosystem to deliver more intuitive and intelligent experiences
