Israel Attacked By Rockets When US Envoys Come Bringing Ceasefire Proposals

JAKARTA - A 30-year-old man was killed by rocket fragments beside a playground in northern Israel. The Israeli military said about 10 rockets were launched from Lebanon to Nahariya.

Most of the projectiles were intercepted and the fallen projectiles were identified, the IDF said.

Channel 12 says three rockets hit the coastal city.

Air sirens sounded at a number of locations in northern Israel in the morning, but it was not clear how many missiles were launched from Lebanon.

"The Israeli government does not maintain my security, my residents, or residents in the north (Israel). It is impossible to live in a situation like this," Nahariya Mayor Ronen Marelly told public broadcaster Kan.

"We were attacked (by Hezbollah) on a large scale," he said.

The Israeli military has caused major destruction in Lebanon since they launched an attack on Hezbollah in September, launched airstrikes across the country and sent troops.

The attack today comes as US envoy Amos Hochstein, who is trying to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the results of his latest negotiations in Beirut.

Hochstein said on Tuesday he had made progress in reaching the deal, but there remains no indication of when the deal would be finalized.
