Gema Kosgoro Proposes Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikoesoemo As A National Hero
JAKARTA - The General Chairperson of the National Leadership Council of the Kosgoro Student Movement, HMU Kurniadi, proposed Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikoesoemo to be awarded the title of National Hero. According to HMU Kurniadi, Margono has a very large service for the Republic of Indonesia, which needs to be appreciated through official recognition.
"History noted that Raden Mas Margono made a real contribution to Indonesia's young independence. Bank Indonesia, Bank BNI, and diplomacy that led to the de facto recognition of Indonesia's independence by other countries, are proof of his contribution," said HMU Kurniadi at the Tanah Kusir Heroes Cemetery, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
HMU Kurniadi explained that Raden Mas Margono was not only a figure who played a role in the physical struggle, but also in the struggle for diplomacy and the economy. "We have been doing research for six months, and we found that his contribution in fighting for Indonesian independence was very inspiring," added HMU Kurniadi.
As the official in charge of food security issues, Margono also played a role in diplomacy led by Prime Minister Sjahrir. One of the big steps is the delivery of rice to India. In addition, during the Second Military Aggression by the Netherlands in 1948, Margono helped defend Indonesia's independence by saving seven tons of gold from BNI. The gold was sold to Macau, and the proceeds from its sale were used to support Indonesia's struggle, such as purchasing food, diplomatic costs, and financing the war needs against the Netherlands.
