2 Crew Members Died And 12 Missing In The Aftermath Of The Overturned Ship On Jeju Island, South Korea

JAKARTA - One unit of fishing vessel capsized and sank off the coast of Jeju Island, South Korea (South Korea), Friday, November 8.

Citing AP, Jeju Island coast guard official Kim Han-na said this incident left two crew members (ABK) dead and 12 others missing.

He explained that another fishing vessel near the sinking ship made a rescue and managed to pull 15 crew members out of the water, two of whom died after being taken to the beach.

Meanwhile, the 13 crew members who were successfully attended only suffered minor injuries.

Kim Han-na said the sinking ship carried 27 crew members consisting of 16 South Koreans and 11 foreign nationals.

The 129-ton ship initially left Seogwipo Harbor, Jeju Island, on Thursday, November 7 evening to catch tenggiri fish.

However, there was an incident that was known when the coast guard received a distress signal at around 04.30, Friday, November 8.

The danger signal came from another fishing vessel that rescued victims 24 kilometers northwest of the island.

At least 11 ships and nine planes from the coast guard, police, firefighters, and the South Korean military were deployed as of Friday 8 November morning to search for survivors.

The joint SAR team was also assisted by 13 ships belonging to residents.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol asked officials to mobilize all the resources needed to find and rescue the missing crew.
