Trump Wins Presidential Election, President Xi Expects China-US To Live Together Peacefully

JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Donald Trump for his victory in the United States Presidential election, according to state media reports Thursday.

"Chinese-US relations that are stable, healthy, and sustainable are of common interest between the two countries and are in line with the hopes of the international community," President Xi said in his message, citing TASS from Xinhua November 7.

According to Xinhua, "President Xi urges the two countries to find the right way to coexist in a new era, so that it can benefit both countries and the wider world."

Xinhua also reported that Chinese President Xi "expressed hope that the two sides will uphold the principle of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthening dialogue and communication, managing differences well, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation."

Earlier, CNN reported Chinese President Xi and US President-elect Trump had a telephone conversation. However, according to CNN, when asked about the reported telephone conversation between Xi and Trump, the Chinese Embassy in Washington replied they had no comment on this information.

The relations between the two countries have reached new lows in recent years following tensions over various issues, ranging from trade and security to the future of Taiwan and the South China Sea, and only starting to improve in November 2023 after a four-hour meeting between President Xi and President Joe Biden.

Trump, who is paired with JD Vance, promoted by the Republican Party, won the 2024 US Presidential Election after bringing together more than 270 electoral votes according to a number of quick calculations and official results have not been announced, ahead of the Democratic Party pair, the incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris and the Walz Team.
