4 Active Volcanoes In North Sulawesi Are In Level II Alert Status
A total of four active volcanoes in North Sulawesi Province (Sulut) are in Level II Alert status.
"Therefore, we hope that residents do not carry out activities within the recommended hazard radius," said Head of the Center for Monitoring of Volcano and Disaster Mitigation of the Land Movement of Sulawesi and Maluku Geological Agency, Juliana DJ Rumambi in Manado, Antara, Thursday, October 31.
Juliana said the four islands with Alert status are Mount Karangetang and Mount Ruang in Siau Islands Regency-Tagulandang-Ayo (Sitaro), Mount Lokon in Tomohon City, and Gunung Soputan in Southeast Minahasa Regency.
Furthermore, two volcanoes with a Normal (level I) status are Mount Tangkoko (Bitung City) and Gunung Ambang (Bolaang Mongondow Regency).
The only volcano in the northern tip province with Alert status (Level III) is Mount Awu in Sangihe Islands Regency.
"So it requires vigilance as well as an invitation not to enter the hazard radius," he said.
Juliana gave an example, with the Alert status above Mount Awu, it is hoped that the community and visitors/tourists will not approach and move within a four-kilometer radius of the crater peak.
The community is also expected to remain calm, not being provoked by rumors about the activities of Mount Awu which cannot be justified.
"The community is expected to follow directions from the Regional Disaster Management Agency of the Sangihe Islands Regency," he said.
