Wanting To Join BRICS, Indonesia Implements The Role Of Bridge Builders Between Developing Countries And Developed Countries
JAKARTA - Indonesia wants to join BRICS to raise the interests of developing countries or Global South, but on the other hand, it continues to discuss with developed countries, carrying out an important role as a bridge builder.
The desire to join BRICS was conveyed at the BRICS Plus Summit which was held in Kazan, Russia. Foreign Minister Sugiono hadri represented Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as a Special Envoy.
Through BRICS, Indonesia wants to raise its common interest in developing countries or Global South.
"We see that BRICS can be the right vehicle to discuss and advance common interests of Global South," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday, October 25.
"However, we also continue our involvement or engagement in other forums, as well as continuing discussions with developed countries," he continued.
This concrete example of sustainability, among others, "Next month the President will attend the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while I am also invited to attend the Foreign Minister's Level meeting of the G7 expanded session developed countries in Fiuggi, Italy," explained the Indonesian Foreign Minister.
He said this emphasized Indonesia's important role as a bridge builder or bridge between developing countries and developed countries.
With this wish conveyed, Indonesia began the process of becoming a member of the block.
"The joining of Indonesia to BRICS is an active free political manifestation," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
"It doesn't mean we join certain camps, but we actively participate in all forums," he continued.

On the sidelines of this summit, the Indonesian Foreign Minister also held a number of bilateral meetings such as with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Secretary General of PLO Palestine, Foreign Ministers of RRT, India, and Thailand.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister also held a bilateral meeting with the Malaysian Minister of Economy and the President of the New Development Bank. In addition, the Indonesian Foreign Minister held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Ministers of Singapore and Cambodia.
