European Union Diplomat Calls For Access For International Observers And Media To Northern Gaza

JAKARTA - EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Tuesday called for immediate access for observers and international media to the northern Gaza Strip.

"International observers and media must be given access," he wrote on social media X, quoted from WAFA Oct. 21.

"After days of military action, reports of North Gaza are dire," he said, stressing "human suffering from man-made hunger and forced transfer cannot be justified."

Reaffirming his call for a ceasefire, Borrell said: "I support the ceasefire's request immediately to allow humanitarian aid and safe travel for internally displaced persons."

Earlier, UN spokesman Farhan Haq announced on Monday that Israel had rejected a request four days ago from the Office of Humanitarian Affairs Coordination (OCHA), to access North Gaza's Jabalia Camp to help civilians trapped under the rubble.

Israel has resumed a war-torn genocide attack on the Gaza Strip by completely ignoring the decision of the International Court (ICJ), which ordered Israel in a legally binding decision to stop its military offensive in Rafah, which could violate its obligations under the Genocide Convention.

Meanwhile, at least 42,718 Palestinians were killed and more than 100,282 others injured, since the conflict.

In addition, at least 10,000 people were unknown, allegedly killed under the rubble of their homes throughout the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian and international authorities say that the majority of those killed and injured are women and children.

Israel's aggression also resulted in forced evacuation of nearly two million people from across the Gaza Strip, with most refugees forced into the densely populated southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt, the largest mass exodus of Palestine since Nakba in 1948.
