Vatican Confirms Paskalis Bishop Bruno Syukur From Bogor Asks Not To Be Appointed As Cardinal

JAKARTA - Director of the Holy See Press Office Matteo Bruni confirmed that the Bishop of Bogor Paskalis Bruno Syukur had asked not to be appointed as a cardinal, after his name had become one of the cardinal candidates in the upcoming December Consistor.

The Director of the Holy See Press Office said late Tuesday, Bishop Syukur expressed his desire to continue his personal growth "in service to the Church and the people of God," a choice stemming from a desire to further deepen his customary life, as quoted by Vatican News Oct. 23.

That wish was granted and their number to be appointed cardinals in December to 20 people.

"His Excellency Bruno Syukur, Bishop of Bogor, Indonesia, has asked the Holy Father not to be appointed as a cardinal during the upcoming Consistor. His Majesty's request is motivated by his desire to grow more in his customary life, in his service to the Church and the people of Allah," explained Matteo Bruni, quoted from Zenit.org.

Earlier, Pope Francis earlier this month announced he would hold a Consistor to appoint a new cardinal on December 7 at the Vatican.

Konsistori, yang akan diselenggarakan dengan perwakilan dari seluruh dunia, akan jatuh sebelum pembukaan Yubelium Harapan 2025 dan setelah penutupan Session Kedua Sinode tentang Sinodality di Vatican.

Pope Francis stressed that elected cardinal candidates come from all over the world.

"As they follow," he said, "revealing the universality of the Church, which continues to spread the loving love of Allah to all people on earth. Their participation in the Roman Archdiocese also shows an inseparable bond between the Petrus See and the special churches spread throughout the world."

"Let us pray for the new cardinals, that by affirming their compliance to Christ who is loving and loyal, they can assist me in my service as Bishop of Rome for the good of all God's Holy people."

With the upcoming Consistories, according to today's data, the Cardinal's Council, which will increase to 256 Cardinals, turns to 255, of which 141 will become electoral cardinals.
