Spain-Portugal Call For Peace Conference For Two-State Solutions In The Middle East Ahead Of Today's Summit

JAKARTA - Spain and Portugal on Tuesday called for an international conference on peace in the Middle East as soon as possible to reach a two-state solution.

This was conveyed in a joint statement after a meeting of foreign ministers and defense ministers of the two countries in Madrid on Monday.

The two countries are calling for an international peace conference in the Middle East as soon as possible to achieve progress in the two-state solution.

Both emphasize that the two-state solution is the "only solution" to peace in the Middle East, calling for concrete and irreversible steps in this regard, according to WAFA Oct. 22.

Monday's meeting was held ahead of the 35th Spanish-Portugal Intergovernment Summit which will be held in Faro, Portugal today, quoted from Anadolu.

Spain and Portugal also condemned Israel's attacks on UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon UNIFIL, calling for restoring control of the situation in the region to prevent a regional war outbreak.

The two countries stressed their support for the Palestinian National Authority, and called for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

It is known that the latest conflict in Gaza broke out after a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region on October 7, 2023, leaving about 1,200 people dead another 250 held hostage according to Israeli tally.

Separately, Gaza's health authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the death toll from the Israeli attacks since October 7 had risen to 42,718 reported fatalities, with injuries reaching 100,282 people, the majority of victims being women and children.
