Meet Russian President Putin, Indian Prime Minister Modi: We Fully Support Peace Restoration And Stability
Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin he wanted peace in Ukraine, with India ready to help reach a ceasefire to end Europe's deadliest conflict since World War Two, when the two met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan on Tuesday.
President Putin thanked PM Modi for accepting an invitation to visit Kazan, the town on the banks of the Volga River hosting the meeting on October 22-24, saying Russia and India shared a "special strategic partnership".
PM Modi thanked Putin for his "strong friendship", praising the growing cooperation and evolution of BRICS, but also saying India felt the conflict in Ukraine should end peacefully.
"We continue to be in contact with ongoing conflict issues between Russia and Ukraine," PM Modi said.
"We believe that the problem must be resolved only through peaceful means," he continued.
"We fully support the restoration of peace and initial stability. All our efforts prioritize humanity. India is ready to provide all possible support in the future," said PM Modi, adding he would discuss the matter with President Putin.

The BRICS summit comes as global financial heads gather in Washington, the United States amid war in the Middle East and Ukraine, China's sluggish economy and fears the US presidential election could spark a new trade battle.
